Gavin is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Belonging broadly to the tradition of lyrical abstraction, their work combines a strong but subtle treatment of colour with a loose and minimalist approach to composition. Presenting vaguely described, half-recognised forms and spaces created from gentle changes of tone, colour and brushwork, Gavin’s paintings invite a reflective response. The works hover ambiguously between the objective and the abstract, providing an open-ended stimulus that interacts with viewers’ own emotions and personal histories to create absorbing experiences that are both individual and shared.
